Researchers: Ohio State lake jump a wee bit of fun

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Intrepid Ohio State University researchers have learned students don't just party in a campus lake during rituals before the annual Michigan game. They also potty there. Thousands of students will jump into Ohio State's Mirror Lake Thursday night, ahead of Saturday's football game between the Buckeyes and Wolverines.

Before, during and after last year's big swim, the College of Earth Sciences monitored the water quality.
Postdoctoral research associate Steve Goldsmith said the lake's temperature went up 3 degrees throughout the night, and the ammonia level surged.

He said body heat could explain the warmer water, but the ammonia likely means one thing: urine.

Goldsmith advises students to have fun, just not open their mouths.

Yes, that's me in the picture.

Sorry (especially avamclean and azraelz_angel) on the delay of Florida pictures. Taking a week off of work makes a person really busy when they come back. Then I've spent the last several days working from 6pm-ish to well after midnight at the area's largest haunted attraction. My uncle and his wife run a Dippin' Dots store and they were providing concessions, so I've been helping out. In exchange, I got to go through the haunted attractions (one's like 30-45 minutes long and the other is 15 minutes or so) without cost and skipping the line. Also got my face painted tonight.

Pictures and Florida details (including the scary moment in the hotel that avamclean missed out on but azraelz_angel got to see and laugh about) will be coming tomorrow when I wake up.

Made it home from my trip and will post stories and pics tomorrow.

Tonight, my uncle called and they need help at the Dippin' Dots concessions at Talon Falls. Talon Falls is the area's haunted attraction. In exchange for helping, I'll get VIP'ed into all three attractions. Then I can compare it to Universal and see how the locals do.

I made it to Nashville and my friend's house yesterday, so vacation has begun!!! Yay!!

A few days here and then off to Florida!!

Plus, I'm showing my friend things on LJ and she likes Gilmore Girls fanfiction (Rory/Logan in particular). She's mainly been on fanfiction.net, but I need to show there are better things out there, so do you have any Gilmore Girls recs for her??

My boss rocks! :-)

I got third place in the Biggest Loser contest, but he doubled the prizes. So instead of $250, I got $500!

:-)

For the contest, I lost 35.4 pounds. My goal was 62.2 pounds, so that put my percentage to my ideal weight at the time we started at 56.91%.

I was 4/10 of a pound from having 2nd place...

However, I lost the most weight of anyone participating. :-)

So now I have some money for Florida in a week and a half (Yay! Florida!) and for some new clothes!

For those who didn't have a scanner, it said: Google

Which is exactly what I figured it would say. We had a barcode scanner sitting by our computers at the office for a project that's being worked on, so we abused it.

For those who had no clue what I was talking about... Google occasionally does special versions of their logo on the main page for certain events. Yesterday was the anniversary of the invention of the barcode, so the logo was a barcode instead of text.

Passed the halfway point at 31.2 pounds! :-)

Well, the yard sale is over and I survived. Yay!

I did get sunburned however. But only my burned lips really bother me, the rest is okay.

I made around $230!!! Woo!!!

So I treated myself tonight and went shopping and spent half of it on some clothes that actually fit me! I was wearing 18 women's size clothes that were getting a bit snug when I started the weight loss deal back at the end of May / first part of June. Now I'm getting 14 Petites (and I found 14 Petite Shorts which was even better)!!

I went to Wal-Mart first and didn't find much I was happy with. I gambled on Kohl's and struck gold with a sale they were having and found their Petite section... I love that there is a Petite section.

So I got a new pair of pants and two new shirts from there and saved $50 on them from the sale. :-)

Other than that, all is going well. I have a question for people though:

Do you have a fic, more than one fic or an author that you use as your procrastination place? I do. I figured this out during the move and the yard sale prep.

Right now, my procrastination author is xanthelj and all her NCIS fics.

My other procrastination original fiction series is The Slave Breakers by maculategiraffe.

Between those two, I can procrastinate for a long, long time. :-)

The unpacking is almost done when it comes to my room. I've gone through all the boxes and have a few small trinkets and picture frames left in one and some computer stuff in another. So Woo! and Hoo!

Now the focus is on the yard sale for 7am tomorrow morning. Lots o' stuff. Furniture, books, clothes, baby things. Between all of us, I think there's three computer desks for sale, several desk chairs, etc. My mom sent over a bunch of stuff she had gotten when my niece was a baby (she's now 2 and a half)... So... Then I'm going to put the art prints from the office that I hadn't been able to sell on ebay yet and see if I can get any taker for those.

Brought several things from the office storage room actually. Which means I got leave early today and claim some of the yard sale time on my timesheet for the week. I'm sneaky like that. :-)

Once the yard sale is over with, I can focus on the little things in my room and getting things hung (the picture for over the bed for instance). And then I'll take pictures and show it off.

Yay! Now back to yard sale organization in one hour. I'm relaxing until 5pm, then I'll get dinner and then I'll get to work.

ETA: Once I'm done with all of that, then I can actually be online more and on messenger more. And... I have a new fic that is just over 2,000 words already and still going! A threesome pairing I've never done before. So look forward to that!
